Student Profile: Tamara Ciutac Tamara Ciutac came to CAMS having achieved a Bachelors degree in Marketing and the Economy and spent four years studying for her professional ACCA qualification and the ACCA Oxford Brookes BSc degree in Applied Accounting. Of her time at CAMS,Tamara says: ‘Even through the early years, the college did not compromise on the quality of teaching. Lecturers are recruited for their knowledge and teaching ability and have excellent academic and industry experience. CAMS facilities are first class and the materials provided have been current and relevant. The best thing about the college is the environment which encourages you to reach for the stars. All the lecturers and staff are always looking at ways to support our learning and help us in trying to achieve our goals.’ Tamara explains that studying for a professional accountancy qualification is not always easy, but that the tremendous benefits definitely make it worthwhile: ‘To achieve success you must have the discipline to stick to study routines and to cope with the outside distractions like work, home and family. You need the ability to juggle a lot of balls. But the benefits are that I can now fully appreciate and relate to the functions of my department and how a set of figures reflect on future policy changes. Studying for the ACCA Oxford Brookes degree was challenging, but interesting at the same time. You need to apply your acquired knowledge to real situations. I would recommend doing it, as together with the ACCA qualification, it has increased my career prospects and demonstrates key skills and commitment to employers.’ And her future plans now that she has qualified? ‘I have recently started work as an assistant accountant. I first need to achieve my 36 months experience in accountancy in order to become a full ACCA member, and then I am considering an MBA.’ |
